A music matching app built in a team of five using a deterministic scoring matrix.

Instead of plugging in Spotify or Last.fm recommendation APIs, we wanted to build a music recommendation engine ourselves. We designed our own matching logic using survey responses and weighted preferences.

Note: Spotify now requires a Spotify Premium account for third-party Web Playback & API access to function. You can still visit and test the live application.

Engineering Philosophy

Writing code is only part of the work.

I prefer solving problems on paper before writing a line of code. Good software comes from understanding user flows and database tables first, not from typing fast.

Paper before code

I sketch user flows on paper before writing any code. If a flow feels confusing on paper, writing code won't make it any clearer.

Readability over cleverness

I prefer simple, readable code over clever abstractions. I want to look at my code a year from now and understand exactly what it does.

Full-stack ownership

I build the front-end interface, design the PostgreSQL tables in Supabase, and handle client state. I enjoy owning the product from database to UI.
